About

Someone who learns your business, and takes the initiative.

Owners know their business could run better. Few have the time, or the technical background, to work out how. We exist to be the people who find out, and then build it.

Where it started

It started with one business owner.

Amalgament grew out of work for one client: an owner whose business had processes that were missing, slow or poorly supported by its technology. The owner didn't know exactly which systems were needed, and had neither the time nor the technical background to find out.

So we learned how the business ran. We found where it could work better, recommended practical fixes, and built the technology and systems to support them. We didn't wait to be handed specifications. We took the initiative, and we stayed: the work carried on as the business grew.

That is what we offer other owners. Understand the business, find what could be better, recommend what's worth doing, and build it, as an ongoing relationship rather than a one-off project.

Why we exist

Every business runs on software now. Few have anyone to improve it.

A growing business might use a CRM, an accounting system, a scheduling app, an industry tool and a dozen spreadsheets. Each was bought to solve one problem. Over the years they pile up, the processes around them grow by habit, and the work of improving any of it falls to whoever has a spare evening.

Large companies employ people for that. Smaller ones mostly can't, and hiring a developer who waits to be told what to build rarely makes sense. That gap is where we work.

Why now

Good technical work has become affordable.

Modern tools and AI let a small, capable team build and maintain what used to take a much bigger one. That changes who can afford proper technical help.

It doesn't change what the help is. Someone still has to understand the business, see what's worth improving, build it properly and stand behind it. Modern tools and AI help us build faster. Real people stay responsible for the work.

How we work

Four things we hold to.

  • We learn first

We get to know how the business works before we change anything.

  • We bring ideas

We point out what could be better, not only what we're asked to build.

  • You decide

We explain the options in plain English. You run the business and set the priorities.

  • We stand behind it

We're accountable for the technical work we agree to deliver, and we look after it afterwards.

Who you'll work with

Real people, who get to know your business.

You talk directly to the people doing the work. There is no account manager in between. The people you explain the problem to are the people who build the fix, and they're still around when it needs changing.

We are a small company taking on a limited number of clients, so every one gets real attention.

How we think

Design the whole, not one more tool.

Our logo is a geodesic dome. Buckminster Fuller designed them to do more with less: many light parts, each one strong because of how it connects to the others.

We think about a business's technology the same way. A CRM, a calendar and an accounting system are parts. What makes them useful is how they connect, which one to trust when they disagree, and who looks after the joins.
