Do you need a fractional CTO, or someone who builds?
A fractional CTO is a part-time technology executive: strategy, vendors, architecture and often a development team, usually for a software company. Most established small businesses need something more hands-on: someone who sees what could run better and builds it. That is what we do.
Questions that bring owners here.
Examples in an owner's words, to show the kind of work we take on. They are not finished client projects.
“Our systems grew one app at a time. Can someone make them work together?”
“We don't have anyone technical, and decisions keep landing on me.”
“Which of our software subscriptions do we actually need?”
“We want to use AI, but nobody here knows where to start.”
“The person who set all this up left. Who looks after it now?”
“I want an opinion I trust before we buy new software.”

Fractional CTO, IT provider or a tech person on demand?
| Amalgament | Fractional CTO | Managed IT provider | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main job | Making your software work for the business | Technology strategy and leadership | Laptops, accounts, networks, help desk |
| Builds things | Yes | Usually leads others who do | Rarely |
| Best for | Owner-led businesses with no developer | Software companies and tech teams | Keeping equipment running |
We don't run your technology strategy, manage your staff or replace your IT provider. We're happy to work alongside your IT provider.
Common questions.
What does a fractional CTO do?
- A fractional CTO works part time as a company's chief technology officer: setting technology strategy, choosing vendors, designing systems and often leading developers. It is a leadership role, usually for companies whose product is software.
Is a fractional CTO worth it for a small business?
- If you build software or lead a technical team, often yes. If you run a service business with no developer, you usually need someone who builds and maintains, not someone who manages a team you don't have.
What is fractional IT?
- Usually a part-time IT director who oversees equipment, security and IT vendors. We cover a different job: connecting your software, automating admin and building the tools your business needs.
What does it cost?
- $2,500 a month, agreed before work starts. The monthly fee covers an agreed amount of ongoing technical work, not unlimited development. Anything bigger gets its own scope and price before it starts.
Do you work with businesses near me?
- We work remotely with businesses anywhere in the United States, by video call, email and shared screens.
